Our history
starts in 1901
The first stone of Villa Bontekoe is laid by former mayor A. Bontekoe on 18th of April 1901. This mayor had an eye for various building styles, which can be seen in his former residence. Next to the diversity of various authentic ceilings, is the majestic mayor residence standing out among the smaller farmhouses.
Not much information is known about this mayor or the history of the villa.
This website is not only a calling card for Villa Bontekoe, but also an attempt to obtain more historical information about Mayor Bontekoe and the villa.

In the Time
1901
The first stone is laid by the former mayor of Giethoorn A. Bontekoe at 18th of April 1901.
1905
Auke Dirks Bontekoe was major of Giethoorn till 28th of november 1905.
1930
The Villa was rented out by the new owners to different people. Among them a schoolteacher and the local nurse. The owners were even living in the shed to be able to rent out the Villa.
1946
Before and after the Second World War the Villa was a pension. The villa was called ‘ Huize Bontekoe’ with running water and full pension.
1983
The Villa is bought by family Kiekebos, in original state, with its charm and shortcoming.
1986
First start of the bed and breakfast.
1990
Temporary pause of the bed and breakfast in connection to family expansion.
2007
The residence is renovated and extended with new bathrooms.
2010
The website of Villa Bontekoe went online.
2012
A successor of major Bontekoe visited the residence and handed over the family tree.
2018
Permit for bed and breakfast was extended.
2019
The new website of Villa Bontekoe went online.
